Jacobs cracks JLGB resistance

articlemain

A hat trick from David Jacobs eased Hyde Park Rovers into the next round of the Feldman Trophy as they cruised past JLGB.

A shock looked on the cards early on as Jamie Gordon had put Sporting ahead but strikes from Bobby Abrams and Oli Grant completed the turnaround.

Sporting went in front when Rafi Bloom found himself through on goal but scuffed his shot, but recovered to reach the loose ball and send in a cross which Gordon headed home from six yards.

Hyde Park equalised immediately, a free kick from David James eluding everyone and going through the hands of Sporting goalkeeper Akiva Lieberman to level the scores.

The home side showed their superiority in the second period. They forged ahead through Grant and then. Bobby Abrams made it 3-1 with another simple finish.

Sporting continued to try to get back into the game. Jonny Davis almost pulled a goal back but he could only steer a shot over the bar following a knock down from Uri Steinberg.

The visitors collapsed in the closing stages as Jacobs struck twice more to complete his hat -rick following swift counter-attacks.

Hyde Park manager Philip Braham said: “Overall it was one of our best performances this season. Every player played out of his skin. It was well deserved and the scoreline reflects how well we played on the day.”

Gavin Sharpe of JLGB said: “Hyde Park deserved to go through. We were not on our best form and good luck to them in the rest of the competition.”
