Maccabi Haifa had four players booked on a night of frustration as they went down 3-1 against Schalke O4 in the Europa League.

Idan Vered had hauled the Israeli champions level but the Germans struck twice in the second half to leapfrog Haifa and go top of Group J.

Maccabi Tel Aviv picked their first Europa League point after coming from behind to draw 1-1 against Dynamo Kiev in Group E. But a goal from Dor Micha could not lift them off the foot of the table.

Strikes from Toto Tamuz and Maaran Lala could not prevent Hapoel Tel Aviv from going down to their second defeat as they were beaten 3-2 by Legia Warsaw in Group C.
