Israel opts for youth

articlemain

Israel have dropped all-rounder Isaac Massil for the European Championships Division Three clash against Spain.

A stalwart of the national team, who won bronze at the Maccabiah Games last month, Massil has been omitted to give opportunities to younger players.

Captain and coached by Herschel Gutman, Israel have named their youngest-ever squad. All-rounder Gabi Schachat, player of the tournament at last year’s ECC Under 17 Championships, as well as Maccabiah starlet Nir Dokarker have been included in the senior squad for the first time.

Opener Safania Nagavkar, the third of the Under 19s in the team, retains his place. The Ashdod pair of Raymond Aston and Yaniv Razpurker are expected to form the backbone of the top order together with the consistent Adrian Vard, Danny Hotz and Eshkol Solomon.

The bowling line-up includes David Massil and Eliezer Samson with paceman Isaac Talkar returning after injury.

Gutman said: “The selectors have taken bold decisions putting their confidence in young players, but this is the way to move forward. It is very exciting for Israel cricket that now we have five players who have come through the ICA’s youth system in the national squad. We have a well balanced team looking forward to doing well.”

The seniors are one of three Israel team competing in European competition. The Under 19 squad visit Antwerp while the Under 15’s play in Bologna, Italy.
