Goals from Yossi Benayoun and Elyaniv Barda earned Israel a 2-0 victory over Romania in Elyaniv Barda in an international friendly on Wednesday night.
In a match featuring two sides who failed to qualify for this summer’s World Cup, it was captain Benayoun who put the visitors ahead on the stroke of half time. Collecting the ball deep inside his own half, the Liverpool midfielder played a one-two before skipping between three Romanian defenders before coolly slotting into the corner of the net.
Racing Genk striker Barda added a second from the penalty spot five minutes from time after he was fouled in the area.
Led by interim-coach Eli Ohana, who was filling in for the outgoing Dror Kashtan, the result saw Israel extend their unbeaten run to four matches.
