HENRY SWERNER CUP ROUND ONE

CHIGWELL ATHLETIC 2 NORTH LONDON RAIDERS 2 (Chigwell won 4-2 on penalties)

James Cartmell’s opener for NLR was cancelled out on the stroke of half-time when a foul on Steve Summers allowed Adam Stolerman to level from the penalty spot.

Raiders restored their advantage after 65 minutes when Lee Cash finished off a flowing move.

But Chigwell took game to a shoot-out when a quick break ended with Summers finding Rob Donn who cut back on to his left foot to place a rising shot into the top corner.

Chigwell converted all four spot-kicks, with Stolerman, Alex Levack, Russell Brill and Glenn Davis successful and they progressed after Alex Bourne and Cash missed for Raiders.

A jubilant Slater told JC Sport: “This was aAnother close game with our rivals today, it could have gone either way.

“To come back from 1-0 and 2-1 down was great to see. Everyone was brilliant today.

“We set up well in centre midfield, as against Raiders it's always a case of whoever wins the midfield tends to dominate, and we were too strong today.

“Once it went to penalties I was never in doubt, as I knew we had the better penalty-takers, and was proved right.

“We are the cup holders and I'm delighted to be in the next round.”
