Shachar Head admits she surpassed her own expectations after being crowned world champion at the World Drug-Free Powerlifting Federation Championships.
Head lifted 180kg in the deadlift to register a personal best, British, European and world records in the T3 and open 80-90 event.
She started the competition with a lift of 160kg followed by efforts of 170kg and 177.5kg. Having already set three world bests, Head went on to lift 180kg, which she described as “a massive milestone”.
"I honestly can’t believe my performance over the weekend,” said Head, who is 19 and lives in Newton Abbot.
"I'm so happy with two world titles and a clutch of international records.”
Head was looking to finish the week with more silverware after being nominated for the AOC Sports Performer of the Year award at the Ricoh Arena.
Laurence Keen also produced a strong performance at the WDFPF. After winning the British Championships in March, Keen, 39, achieved a competition personal best of 195kg at a bodyweight of 95.6kg, winning the Senior Under-100kg class.
"It was great to lift another personal best," he said. I also attempted 200kg but I just couldn’t lock it out.
"I am really happy to be lifting more than I was 10 years ago."
