GARSTON VETS LEAGUE

MACCABI LONDON LIONS 6 RAYNERS LANE 2

Whilst the scoreline might suggest otherwise, this wasn't the walk in the park it may appear, as the visitors gave the hosts plenty to think about.

In the early exchanges, Lane played a high line as they sought press Maccabi back, but allowing space in behind caused them as many problems as they did ask questions.

aving fired an early warning across their bows, Cash made no mistake on 12 minutes as he gave Maccabi the lead, Corin's cheeky chip came back of the bar, the Maccabi hit man on hand to tap home.

Cash and Conway were causing all sorts of issues for Lane, and the two combined soon after to double the lead, with Conway stabbing home after the former's shot was blocked.

Lane though weren't just there to make up the numbers. From a comer Rob Abrahams made a superb stop but the warning wasn't heeded as on the half hour another set play saw a goalbound header blocked, but honesty from Adam Harvey saw a goal given when he advised the referee the ball had indeed crossed the line.

With their tails up Lane tried to push, but it was still Maccabi in control, and when skipper Stanton robbed the ball high up and fed Summers the latter bore down on goal before slipping in Hakim who drilled home a low finish to make it 3-1 at the break.

While Lane had their moments, it was all Maccabi. Cash, Summers, Stanton and Pearl all came close before Hakim finished emphatically to pretty much end the contest, but any lingering hopes Lane may have had were soon wiped out when Cash added a second of his own to make it 5-1.

Lane did pull one back with a smart breakaway goal, but Hakim's all-round performance was rewarded with the match ball as he broke the off-side trip, drew the keeper and slotted home.
