Richard Goodman took silver in the Under 20 race at the Elgoibar International cross-country meeting in the Basque region of northern Spain.

The Maccabiah double gold medallist was narrowly out-sprinted by UK teammate Jonathan Hay in a thrilling finish. The pair had broken away from a field that included teams from Spain, France and Italy.

Goodman said: “In various ways the event took me by surprise, and possibly Jonny Hay’s having run it last year made the difference this time. “The course was part running track, part gravel and part mud and it was really quite a learning experience.”
