Giorgi knocks out seeded Pennetta

Italy's Camila Giorgi caused one of the upsets of the first round at the Australian Open with victory over compatriot Flavia Pennetta.

After losing the first set 6-4, Giorgi recovered in style to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-3 against her 12th-seeded opponent.

Giorgi will meet Tereza Smitkova of the Czech Republic in round two.

There was disappointment for Diego Schwartzman and Mike Russell who bowed out of the Men's Singles.
