Double delight for AFC Flixton

articlemain

Stuart Delmonte claimed AFC Flixton’s double-winning season had surpassed the club’s wildest dreams.

AFC Flixton followed up their promotion as Division Two champions to lift the King’s Cup.

The 2-1 win over Deloitte – thanks to goals from Steven Peck and an extra-time winner - via Rafi Leeker over Deloitte capped a fine season.

And joint-boss Delmonte told JC Sport: "We had high expectations, like you do at the start of every season, but could not predict we would do this well.

"I have to pay credit to the players. All Tony Rosenberg and myself do is speak to the players and offer them advice.

"But when they cross the white line it’s down to them. We are just a small cog in the engine.

"The players have performed to a high level in the league and in the cup competitions.

"Our extra-time win over Deloitte summed up our season. Even when we have suffered setbacks we have not let our heads drop.

"They scored a few minutes from the end but we did not let that affect us and we went again."

The management team of Delmonte and Rosenberg have now won six trophies in their two seasons in charge.

The only cup competition to evade them this season was the Peter Morrison National Cup, bowing out to eventual winners Hendon Sports Club A in a narrow defeat.

Rosenberg added: "We ask every player to give 100 per cent and no player leaves the pitch without doing so. That’s what we demand.

"But what has driven us on is the team spirit. Once you have joined the Flixton Family we look after you."

Meanwhile, defender Mark Bell scooped the Players’ Player of the Year award as well as the Managers’ gong.

James Rosenberg won the Most Improved Player accolade.
