Two North London cyclists successfully completed the 173km mountain stage of the recently concluded Tour de France — along with 9,500 cyclists from all over the world.
Property developer, Ashley Fulton, and solicitor Warren Phelops took part in the stage of the Tour that is open to serious amateurs. They finished it by climbing Mont Ventoux, colloquially known as the ‘Giant of Provence’.
The pair trained for several months, with 100-mile trips and hundreds of circuits over the Highgate hills.
Ashley said: “We entered the premier amateur cycling sportive of the year as a personal challenge. The roads were closed but we had the police for company.” Warren “required a spell in an ambulance assistance and an oxygen mask when I reached the top”.
