Chigwell secure first MMFL title

articlemain

Richard Slater described Chigwell Athletic’s MMFL success as an “amazing effort” after they secured the title for the first time following a 2-0 victory over Scrabble.

Needing a point to secure the title, strikes in the final 15 minutes from top-scorer Adam Stolerman and Daniel Sugarman sparked scenes of wild celebrations as they wrestled the trophy from North London Raiders.

Top-scorer Stolerman broke the deadlock after 75 minutes with a neat finish after good play from Dean Nyman.

Sugarman sealed the win in the 90th minute, capitalising on an excellent through ball from Glenn Davis to slot home.

Chigwell boss Richard Slater told JC Sport: “'It's the club’s first league title since 2004, so it’s been a long time coming.

"It's a superb achievement given that this is only our second season in Masters football.

"Full credit goes to the squad who have been absolutely brilliant. From the first game in September the lads never lost focus. We pulled off two dramatic comebacks against Raiders - at 2-0 and 5-0 down - to claw back draws went a massive way to winning the league.

"It's an amazing effort by all involved and fully deserved.

"We now look to Brady in the Cup Final next week to try and secure the double."

A hat-trick from Tony Plaskow helped Raiders secure second place after a 5-2 victory over Waldaf Town. Gideon Gold and Wayne Davidson added the gloss. James Kaye and Alex Bourne registered for Waldaf.
