articlemain

Excellent displays from Ashley Connick, Simon Taylor, Rafi Addlestone and Richie Wienburg helped Belmont & Edgware 1st claim their first success of the Middlesex Sunday League Division Two season.

BECC captain Warren Averbuch won the toss and elected to bowl first. Averbuch and Jonny Evans opened the bowling and the skipper soon removed the opening batsmen. Evans bowled well and was soon replaced by Connick.

Connick found his rhythm from the start and removed Kensington and Chelsea's captain thanks to a catch behind the stumps from Nick McLeod. Averbuch continued to place pressure on the batmen, with Connick picking up wickets at regular intervals, one of which produced a sublime catch from McLeod behind the stumps.

Weinburg replaced Averbuch, and he and Connick helped restrict the west Londoners to 65-5 with Connick (8-2-10-4) bowling superbly picking up four wickets in his spell.

After the drinks break, Kaplan replaced Connick with Evans coming back into the attack to help BECC pick up the remaining wickets. BECC had bowled Kensington and Chelsea for 141.

The BECC reply started well until Michael Blasebalk was dismissed. The top order pressed on, however BECC found themselves at 27-3. Averbuch came to the crease and was dismissed for 12.

Simon Taylor settled in well and displayed some excellent counter-attacking batting. Together with Rafi Addleston, he began to repair the damage and build a solid platform for BECC.

At drinks BECC were 85-4. Taylor was finally dismissed for a well deserved 39 which resulted in Richie Weinburg entering the frame. Weinburg and Addlestone, who produced a calm and expertly-accumulated unbeaten 28, set upon the returning opening bowlers with aggression and determination.

Weinburg hit a superb quick fire 28 consisting of five fours and a six leading to BECC winning the game by four wickets.
