GREATER MANCHESTER AMATEUR LEAGUE DIVISION THREE
SOUTH MANCHESTER 167 all out
SALFORD 101 all out
South Manchester won by 66 runs
South Manchester Sports claimed a 66-run victory over local rivals Salford Blue Jays in the GMACL.
On a damp day South were invited to bat first and got off to a steady start with Steve Glicher, who was dropped off the second ball at deep mid-wicket, and David Cohen putting on 30 for the first wicket before Cohen fell playing across the line to a straight ball.
That brought Steven Allweis to the crease who reached 12 before being trapped leg before. Akiva Lieberman could not repeat his heroics from the previous week and also fell cheaply.
Steve Glicher steadied the ship but was run out for a fine 43 including one 6 on to to next door bowling green. Dan Lieberman chipped in with 15 but the innings fell away and South finished on 167. Jonny Wineberg claimed 3-27, including the key wicket of Lieberman.
Batting was not easy on a damp wicket, with the ball holding up on the surface. Salford’s reply got off to the worst possible start when Dines was out first ball to Allweis. Only Mohammed Jeelani managed to attack the South bowlers with a fine 31 before falling LBW to Cohen.
Shimon Harris was the only other Salford player to make double figures as the rest of the innings fell away.
Allweis, the pick of the South bowlers, with 4-38, was ably supported by Cohen, 2-20 and veteran Harry Rosenblum with 2-15 and Ben Darwent with 1-25 off eight.
