TONY ROSENBERG believes the Accountants Premier League fixture congestion should see AFC Flixton and Manchester Maccabi 1st lock horns in a one-off title shootout.
Flixton overhauled their rivals thanks to Sunday’s 3-1 win over Miam Miam.
It was the defending champions’ second game in the last 12 weeks due to a series of postponements.
The wet weather has played havoc with the schedule in the north west in recent months to leave clubs facing a race against time to fulfil their fixtures.
Teams that do not play their own pitch will have complete their home games by the end of April.
With a large chunk of the season still remaining, Rosenberg believes league bosses should consider drastic measures to settle the outcome of the championship.
A winner-takes all game has been mooted by Flixton's joint-manager Rosenberg, who said: "It's become a bit of a farce due to all the cancellations. It’s not the league’s fault. But they might have to come up with alternative plans than arranging midweek matches.
"That is not always suitable. I believe if it’s just Manchester Maccabi 1st and ourselves who can mathematically win the league in the closing stages of the season, then a one-off final might be the best outcome.
"Otherwise I don’t know how the programme will be completed. There’s a lot of games let and not enough weeks left.
"So rather than scrambling around to find pitches and players to play dead-rubbers, this might be a solution. If there’s little is riding on other games then this could be a way forward."
