Victory for Liverpool FC

October 13, 2010 13:06

The last couple of years have clearly been a bit of a rollercoaster for Liverpool supporters.

All Reds fans could do with some good news right now and hopefully, today’s news that owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett cannot stop their boardroom rivals who sanctioned the sale is a big step in the right direction. Good riddance I say.

There is no guarantee that the glory years will return as and when the New England Sports Ventures takes charge. But the developments will undoubtedly bring a small smile back to the face of the Anfield faithful. I will take small smile for now, with the hope of a bigger one to follow. Only time will tell.

Strange as it may sound, part of me feels a tinge of sadness for Rafa Benitez, the man who helped Liverpool come back from the dead in the 2005 Champions League final. Having taken the team to the heady heights of second place in the league, the last year and a half featured a big power struggle, a battle that he could not win. Granted he made some bad signings and bad decisions, but he was made to look like the bad guy when it’s clear that at times, he was working with hands tied behind his back.

Like many Liverpool fans, I believed that Roy Hodgson was the right man to come in and replace him. Results have not gone as expected but hopefully, with the off-the-field business finally settled, Roy and the boys can concentrate on what Liverpool do best – winning football matches.
