Recession? Not in Football

November 24, 2016 22:50

We might be gripped by the recession with job opportunities certainly few and far between right now but that doesn’t appear to have stopped two huge jobs becoming available in the Premier League this week. And a certain Israeli has been linked with both of them.

Portsmouth boss Tony Adams and Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari were sacked in the last 24 hours. Can you remember the last time two top-flight managers went in one day?

Chelsea are fourth in the Premier League, seven points behind leaders Manchester United. Portsmouth stand 16th, a point off the drop zone. So I have two questions… Avram are you listening and a penny for your thoughts?

It just goes to show how difficult is to be a manager in the Premier League. Here are the list of managerial departures already this season. September 3: Alan Curbishley - West Ham, September 4: Kevin Keegan - Newcastle, October 25: Juande Ramos – Tottenham, October 26: Harry Redknapp – Portsmouth, December 4: Roy Keane - Sunderland, December 16: Paul Ince – Blackburn, February 9: Tony Adams – Portsmouth, Luiz Felipe Scolari – Chelsea.

Quite a list considering that we are only in February. One man who must be laughing right now is Sir Alex Ferguson. This could prove to be his easiest title defence yet as United have barely gone into second gear. I have been very impressed with Liverpool’s effort this year but have they done well to be where they are? The damning verdict is that Chelsea and Arsenal just simply have not performed this year?

I have to be honest though, I have missed Avram Grant and I hope to see him back in football this week.

Bye for now Phil!
