Superb column by Dominic Lawson pointing out the idiocy of the attacks on David Cameron as a public school alumnus, and the hailing of Nick Clegg as some kind of messiah untouched by privilege:
You would think from most newspaper accounts that Cameron is the
only “privileged” former public schoolboy on offer to the British
public as potential prime minister. In fact Clegg’s father, like
Cameron’s, was a City financier, which allowed young Nicholas to be
sent to one of Britain’s smartest prep schools, Caldicott. The ties
between Caldicott and Eton are so close that the school’s website
contains driving directions for parents headed “Eton College: how to
get there from Caldicott”.
Fortunately for Clegg, his parents never made that short drive down
the A355. Instead they sent their son to Westminster School.
