Whatever one’s politics, it is impossible not to accept and respect David Cameron’s commitment to Holocaust remembrance and education. When he set up the Holocaust Commission, there were some who doubted its purpose. When the Commission recommended the construction of a memorial, there were some who doubted its point. But this week’s announcement that it will be built in Victoria Tower Gardens, a stone’s throw from Parliament, surely removes all such doubts. It will be a national memorial that will soon form part of the fabric of Westminster — an icon of our democracy and our values. Bravo!
