Every year, with depressing regularity, we record the various outrages associated with the ludicrously named “Israel Apartheid Week” . This year, it is a relief to be able to report something more positive: a co-ordinated effort by Jewish students — and, of course, many others who wish to counter campus antisemitism — to give fellow students a realistic picture of Israel, rather than the lies and distortions of the hate-mongers.
Working with groups such as Stand With Us, they are refusing to be cowed and have organised a series of activities and stunts. Good on them. As the Chief Rabbi writes this week in the New Statesman, those who scream “apartheid” could not be more wrong and reveal only their deep ignorance of what apartheid actually looks like.
It’s an entertaining thought that, in the same week in which the bigots spew their thinly veiled Jew hate, even the Arab potentates who own Manchester City Football Club have turned to an Israeli firm to rebuild their website and social media content. If they had the capacity to examine their own prejudices, the IAW mob would see that, in the real world, bridges are there to be crossed, not torn down.
