Our community has achieved great things in a number of areas - politics, industry, media and art to name just a few. But there is an old joke that the book on Jewish Sporting Heroes would consist of a series of blank pages. We now know better.

A new book, Does Your Rabbi Know You're Here?, shows that we have made a pivotal impact even in football. We may still be waiting for the first British Jewish Premier League footballer, but our influence in football has been immense.

Not only have Jews pioneered the marketing of the game, run clubs and helped to set up the Premier League itself, there have, indeed, been players and coaches over the years. And no-one, it seems, has ever noticed.
