BDS thugs in action

January 21, 2016 15:18

This is far from the first time that we have had to observe the true nature of the BDS movement. It is not just antisemitic in theory, singling out the world's only Jewish state for boycott. In practice, that antisemitic intent is even starker, as was seen at King's College London on Tuesday. The BDS thugs who spend their spare time hounding those who defend Israel's right to exist can dress up their actions in whatever words they wish, but the reality was exposed once again at KCL - Jewish students sitting peacefully in a room while glass was smashed around them by a mob. This is antisemitism, pure and simple. No, this does not represent day-to-day life for Jews on campus; it is wrong to portray student life as one attack after another. But it is equally wrong to pretend that Jews on campus are not under attack and do not have to deal with these thugs. And that is unacceptable. The experiences we have at university shape our lives - and, at the moment, one of those experiences is antisemitic hate speech, dressed up as anti-Zionism. Those university authorities that permit it, or turn a blind eye, are in their own way as guilty as the culprits themselves.
