Over the past 20 years, more than a million and a half people have emigrated to Israel, among them doctors, engineers and spiritual leaders. But Israelis aren't impressed; according to a new survey, half of them think this immigration has done more harm than good.
The survey was carried out by the Ministry of Absorption and was reported on Army Radio. Among the findings: 50% per cent of the public believes the large waves of immigration have had a negative impact on crime rates, and 62% blame the immigrants for the rise in alcoholism among the country's youth.
The survey also shows that nearly a third of respondents believe olim have made it more difficult for locals to find work and housing.
it seems also that more than one third of prisoners in Israeli army jails are from immigrant families.
"They come here, stealing our jobs and our homes...And they are alcoholic criminals". Seems the Israelis aren't so super, special wonderful after all.
