Kind of depressing that in the 21st Century there are still such dangerously stupid people in elevated positions - or indeed in all walks of life.
I have worked for London Borough of Lambeth for 3 & 1/2 years in Parking Reps and Appeals,dealing with peoples exercise of their democratic right to challenge councils issue of Parking fines.
Recently, i found myself being 'railroaded' through Lambeths 'complaints procedures'.
This abusive and malicious treatment began following difficulties with my team manager, and challenging failures to correctly apply the councils own procedures, as well as her/failing to behave in accordance with lambeths own policies on Fairness,Respect and Equality as well as statutory requirements implicit in any contract of employment.
After 6 months of oppressive behavior towards me and then malicious complaints made, which had also caused me to be signed off sick for 4 weeks,I found myself at a meeting called as the start of the 'formal' disciplinary process. Following the usual procedural incompetences evidenced right up to the meeting itself,i attended - in order to comply with procedure but also to highlight the illegitimacy of the Managements actions for 4-5 months - caused mainly through procedural failures. The meeting consisted of My temporary line manager and an advisor from HR, My union rep and myself.
At this point, although I had been ordered( yes ordered !)to attend a meeting at 4.30pm with the departmental manager,I wasn't aware that the purpose of this 4.30pm meeting was to be to suspend me from duties to faciltate an enquiry into complaints against me.
Anyway, in the 1pm meeting the HR advisor immediately started to conduct the meeting in an aggressive and oppressive,bullying manner - repudiating any attempts by myself to call her to account( I had knowledge of this type of behaviour from this officer in a recent similar case involving a work Colleague).
Making the HR officer stop in her tracks I quietly and asked why they were all behaving like Nazis. The Hr,perhaps conveniently hearing what she wanted, screamed at me that she was ending the meeting because I had "called her a Nazi".
I immediately corrected her, as was confirmed by witness at the meeting, that I had stated that I had not called her a Nazi but had after several months of management bullying asked why they were 'behaving like' Nazis.
At the 4.30pm meeting at the top of the reasons for suspending me was the allegation that I had called the HR offcer a Nazi.
I was ordered to make myself accesible comunication from management by 'e'mail.
Now my personal 'e'mail has the well known intellectual Human rights /activist prose - 'when they came for. the Jews.........' and also a reference to the Bielski Partisans saving of 1200.
A week after my suspension the Interim Head of Parking, having received a reply from myself to an'e'mail ordered me to remove the signature prose or use another 'e'mail. He stated that the prose is offensive and refers to something that '"may have occurred during WW2" - particularly in the light of the complaint against me ! ! as you can imagine I was absolutely astonished at such a claim/order.
And this was the same week that Bishop Williamson hit the news with his equally stupid statements !
Having , in my reply, pointed out that the signature was a statement of personal belief, and was an intelectually well known statement of the reasons for speaking out about oppression, and bullying, and was not confined to being merely about events which "may have occurred during WW2"! - I also vehemently challenged his statement. I pointed out that this 'order' was indicative of the behaviour I was complaining about all along, and also the reason why the prose was as valid today as it was in 1946.
The response was predictably to threaten me with disciplinary action if I did not comply with ‘a reasonable’ management instruction to either remove the signature material or use another ‘e’mail address………..! and he added that the material was offensive to the HR officer and himself.
I continue to refuse the request and will shortly face dismissal because of this….
