Good news - Hillary Clinton has appointed Dennis Ross as "adviser to the secretary of state for the Gulf and Southwest Asia."
It sounds vague and dull. But in reality, as the Washington Post reports:
the title is a euphemism for Iran and issues affected by Iran's actions; it was kept obscure because Washington has not had diplomatic relations with Tehran since shortly after the Iranian revolution three decades ago.
Ross 'gets it'. It has to be said that, whatever the fears of some, the Obama administration's early steps indicate a deep seriousness in foreign policy, specifically with regard to the Middle East.
