DISRUPTION AT ISRAEL PHILHARMONIC CONCERT

September 02, 2011 00:50

I was present last night at the Royal Albert Hall to see the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra with maestro Zubin Metha. Prior to the concert I received an email from the B.B.C that security would be tight and to arrive from 6pm. We were also told not to bring flags.

At the start of the concert there was shouting and singing from the upper gallery to free Palestine where protesters had Palestinian flags. Obviously they got past security - I wonder how? Three other distinct interruptions took place including shouting "Fuck Israel" and generally screaming to free Palestine. All protesters were forcibly removed by stewards.

It is truly quite shocking that politics should interfere with the enjoyment of the arts and wonderful music. Fortunately the Orchestra showed great dignity and composure and waited until the thugs were removed.

It is unfortunate that some of the recent statements on Israel by Alan Duncan M.P. the Foreign Secretary and the Prime Minister have no doubt given oxygen to the cause of these repugnant demonstrators. It is about time that the Jewish Community should make its voice heard in Parliament and outside Downing Street that untruthful pronouncements on Israel are unacceptable. No doubt it is the old story that a litre of oil is worth more than Jewish blood.
