But if only Cherie Blair's father, Tony Booth ( "bloody stupid drunken Scouse-git"), was still alive. He could have represented The SLP against Luciana Berger in Liverpool. He would be a damn sight better than Ricky Tomlinson, who, you will remember, showed virtually no interest in politics in "The Royles" (a pathetic imitation of "Till Death do Us Part".)

And if Tony Booth is dead, what about Alexis Sayle? After all, he is a stand-up comic. Isn't his natural milieu The House of Commons? Why has he been overlooked by Scargill?

The actor (Ricky Tomlinson) attended an SLP gathering at a city centre hotel, after which party leader Arthur Scargill made a statement which provided more questions than answers.

Meetings will now be held – but, when pressed on Wavertree, Mr Scargill merely said: “Our candidates will be announced in due course, but we will be standing in Liverpool and Merseyside.”

Mr Tomlinson said: “I love Liverpool and love the people of Liverpool – that’s why I am so angry at this imposition [of Labour candidate Luciana Berger, the Londoner selected from an all-women shortlist].”

"tomlinson for office. good old english, liverpudlian common sense, he at least knows what it is to be from liverpool and british. where does the muslim-jewish thing come to play. good grief, never mind her being jewish, the fact she isn't local says it all. british for the british...and leave religion out of it. it should be at least something like four generation british to run for office, that would make more sense and the all british for sure; not just one or two generations."
