A new centre is essential

December 08, 2011 13:18

It is not a desire, but a necessity.

As one of the Nottingham JSoc Shabbat officers I have the task of preparing Friday night meals for up to 150 students in a kitchen with two faulty ovens, one pan and a barely-functioning air-conditioning system.

It's a rewarding job, but one that is becoming increasingly challenging. It has quickly become apparent that our current centre is totally inadequate.

We need better facilities, not just for us as students, but to benefit the wider community as a whole.

Our links with the Nottingham Jewish community must be strengthened.

To remain at the heart of Jewish life we need a new centre as a matter of urgency.
