Loose Women presenter cut off when she compared microchips to concentration camp tattoos

Fellow guests intervened when Ms Street-Porter compared a new child-safety idea to the actions of the Nazis

Janet Street Porter was quickly cut off by her colleagues on ITV’s Loose Women when she began comparing a modern campaign to microchip children to the Nazis’ policy of tattooing concentration camp inmates during the Holocaust.

During the popular daytime discussion show, broadcast earlier this month, the veteran presenter said that she found the idea of putting microchips in children so that their parents can track them “offensive".

She said: “It’s treating children as badly as we treat prisoners. We tag prisoners and during the last world war, Jews had triangles and had tattoos put on them and it was just absolutely offensive and I find this idea of sticking a microchip inside an innocent child…”

It was at this point her fellow panellists interrupted and Ms Street-Porter was persuaded to withdraw her remark.

Overall, the microchipping idea was received poorly on social media, with the majority of viewers getting in touch via Twitter to voice their disapproval.

Loose Women continues every weekday at 12:30 pm on ITV1
