Using their loaves in record numbers

articlemain

Shabbat UK activities attracted a record 30,000 participants, from the 12,000 who baked challah at events around the country to the schoolchildren who attended last week's party in north London. More than 100 communities ran special events marking the weekend, which encourages community members to engage with Shabbat in a meaningful way.

Theresa May tweeted "Shabbat Shalom" to participants, wishing them "an uplifting and inspiring day of rest".

Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis said afterwards: "Reports we are receiving from around the country are of the largest and most inspiring Shabbat UK yet. Record numbers of people kept and shared Shabbat with their families, friends and communities at events which were more ambitious and more impactful than ever before. The beauty of Shabbat is that it returns every seven days to recharge and re-energise us. So there’s no need to wait until the next Shabbat UK to enjoy it again."
