The year of the dress

articlemain

I'm a frock kinda girl, whatever the season or occasion. Choosing a dress to wear means less hassle getting ready in the morning, just fling on one piece of material and you're done. None of this matching up tops and bottoms while having a wardrobe fluster. It's a simple and sensible choice for every busy woman, and designers have made it even easier this season with the huge choice of dresses that take you from school gate to office to party.

It's prints versus plains when it comes to design. If you're less of a fashion follower and would rather fade into the background (while looking super-stylish too), plain designs in muted shades would work best. Alternatively liven up and bring drama to a simple design with a pop of colour. Reds and yellows will definitely turn heads. Dresses with little detail yet classically cut will stand the test of time. So if you're looking for a frock to buy now and love forever, avoid prints that can age from one season to the next and instead stick to one colour palette.

Prints will more obviously stand out and will update your wardrobe while giving a certain vibe to your look. For example, dropped-waists lend themselves to a 1920s feel while boxy A-line shapes and bold prints scream '70s fever. A riot of prints was sprayed all over the S/S 15 catwalks. Etro, Valentino and Emilio Pucci embraced their usual elaborate and heavily printed signature style. Meanwhile high-street stores have equally gone mad for print from bright florals to pretty birds to classic stripes.

A new frock is a must-have whatever your taste. Give your legs some airing and dress up - literally!
