Summer holiday extras: Life's a beach

articlemain

Serious sun seekers will notoriously schlepp everything down to the beach or poolside to ensure they are fully prepared for every sun scenario and they look the part while doing so.

Though you may finally have your swimwear sorted, it's the accessories that do all the hard work and create the illusion that you effortlessly live and breathe the summer life.

But instead of piling on the extras, or filling up your beach bag to overflowing, scale back and choose stand-out pieces that will see you through the season, and wherever your summer travels take you.

Here are my go-to pieces:

HAT TRICK

If you want to lift your beach look a notch or two with a headpiece that's beautifully chic and protects your tresses too, opt for Panamas and wide-brimmed styles over visors, headscarves and baseball caps.

IN THE BAG

Beach-ready totes are perfect for all your must-have necessities. Look out for pretty details that give an extra punch to a regular straw bag. Choose metallic shades and sparkles that allow you to sweep into cocktail hour straight from your sun lounger.

GET COVERED

Refresh tired swimwear with a cover-up that will keep you protected, cool and stylish, all in one. Look for colourful designs and vibrant patterns that sit perfectly over plain-coloured swimwear and doubles up for perfect sunset dressing.

SLIP ON

Poolside feet have never been so practical. Sliders are the new modern Birkenstocks. The original Nike and Adidas designs have evolved to become the surprising in-shoe of the summer, but if it's glamour you crave, add a touch of bling. Alternatively, old-school Jelly shoes will be your best friend near sand and water.
