Protect and perfect

articlemain

Just because your skin is hidden underneath layers of woollies, opaque tights and cosy coats need not mean you neglect your skin for an entire season. In fact, the colder the weather, the more your skin craves a deeper skincare routine. It's about three things: hydration, nourishment and pampering. Get the latter right and you'll be coming back for more. Your skincare routine should act as a treat, not a chore. Slathering and smoothing on serums, creams, lotions and oils should give a sense of satisfaction to not only your skin but your mind too.

Exfoliation is a must especially in the winter. Skin compensates for a lack of moisture by holding on to dead skin cells that then lead to a dull complexion. Get into the habit of buffing your face (gently) and also your body to give your skin a tingle and glow. Serums keep getting better and better. These silky formulations glide onto skin giving multi-benefits to your skin and boost your make-up's longevity.

Although there's a lot of hype around using oils, women seem to worry about the grease rather than the results. If you avoid using face oils, try replenishing your skin with a swirl of bath oil. A great alternative to perfume in the winter is scented body oil. It lingers on skin for ages and doesn't contain moisture-stripping alcohol like fragrance.

Similarly, limbs need looking after too. Step up your bodycare with creamy body butters and lotions for extra-dry skin. Use them daily and you can wave goodbye to scaly legs and moulting caused by temperature changes.

Chapped lips are a beauty no-go. It leads to peeling, bleeding and discomfort. Dab a specially formulated lip cream on your pout and you'll soon see a difference in your lips' texture.

And finally, don't forget your mitts. Swap harsh anti-bacterial hand washes and lotions for far more luxurious sulphate-free formulas, that lock in natural moisture and are more enjoyable to use too.
