Power party dressing

articlemain

A man in a black tuxedo jacket has always had a smart and alluring look, but a woman dressed in one makes men (and women) turn heads. The trend that was born on the Yves Saint Laurent catwalk in 1966, made "smoking jackets" sharp yet discreetly sexy too. It was an iconic look that rocked the fashion world and has been interpreted ever since by Tom Ford and Ralph Lauren among other top designers.

Recently, this trend has had a rebirth. Victoria Beckham chose to wear a black tuxedo to the biggest night in the fashion diary - the British Fashion Awards - instead of her signature silhouette dresses. Likewise A-lister Liv Tyler did the same at the same event (oops!) and both were snapped by global paparazzi. A clever, if controversial, well thought out move, by both celebrities.

The aim is to stand out but for all the right reasons - plus you're modestly covered yet look ultra chic, modern and ooze confidence. A look that is hard to achieve with other items of clothing and is best teamed with simple black pumps, a statement clutch and a strong red lip.

Throw on a suit jacket and you will instantly dress up your weekend denim. Team an outfit with some sparkle to be party ready in a matter of minutes. Contemporary designs have a cool, edgy vibe to them, which is what every anti-party frock woman requires, especially at this time of the year.

With a tux on your back, you're guaranteed to be the talking point at the party and most probably the person that took minimal time to look so damn good.
