Mono mania

articlemain

I love colour. Nothing beats a bright red lip or a flash of metallic, but it seems I’m alone in my thinking. Monochrome fashion has remained on the fashion power list since Twiggy’s 1960s days and it hasn’t declined. Perhaps this is due to its unassuming and practical nature or maybe it’s just the lazy girl’s way of dressing. Whatever the reason, black and white is far from being boring. It’s always eye-popping and once you get a pattern involved in the equation, it will send you to dizzy heights.

Monochrome can be worn to great effect whatever the occasion, even in the gym.

However, the real bonus of a black and white ensemble is its ability to make you look slimmer and taller (yes, really). Many more “fat days” would be spent in bed if it wasn’t for the magical effects of black. While the simplicity of white is often associated with ladylike and chic (usually European) dressing. They’re the power colours whatever the season and never let us down.

For a modern take on the monochrome look, simply vary materials to break up the starkness of the black against the white, such as a black top over a leather skirt, or a fluffy sweater over linen trousers. Don’t be afraid to mix and match the texture or print to add interest to your look. Alternatively thow in a dark grey to confuse the usual trusted ensemble.
Lastly, accessories should be in keeping with the same tone to emphasise and complete the look. And for real drama add that bright red lip after all.
