Man up!

This week has seen the fashionista pack flocking to London to celebrate menswear. Now in it's fourth season, London Collections: Men is the brainchild of the British Fashion Council, which quickly appreciated that British menswear, especially with its heritage and style, is way ahead of the game in both design and creativity.

Take, for example, the bowler hat, brogues, the dandy, the floral shirt and tie, the great riding coat, the three-piece suit, the trench coat, tweed and tartan, Wellington boots - the list goes on. All these iconic styles were born in Britain and have become mainstays of international menswear.

And the 2014 range does not disappoint, showcasing emerging talent and Savile Row tailors at their best. The catwalks were awash with innovative designs with a nod to the continued growth and success of the menswear sector. Gieves & Hawkes, Tom Ford, Burberry, John Smedley, and Hackett all continue to wow with wearable clothes and on some occasions (if not often) affordable too.

Give your man a makeover with a few trend-led tweaks that will add a refreshing zing to the umpteen white and pale blue shirts and jeans that make up the majority of his wardrobe. Here are some of my suggestions for adding a touch of modern style to his collection.
