Happy feet

articlemain

Let's just say it how it is: feet are probably the least attractive part of our body. End of. Some people even have aversions to feet - including their own!

Being a Piscean who loves nothing more than a dip in a bath, pool or any sight of water, polished bare feet are a year-round must. It's part of my beauty routine whether I'm wearing summer sandals or winter boots. Having well-kept toes instantly makes my feet look a million times better.

Nail varnishes in a hot red, a bubble-gum pink or this season's blazing blues can transform the sight of weirdly alien-shaped toe nails, dry skin or cracked heels to almost slightly attractive.

So many of my friends wouldn't think twice about frequent manicure appointments but having a pedicure is bottom of their beauty list. I, however, am the complete opposite. My pedi is a highlight of my month. Not only is this a beauty treatment but literally putting your feet up aids circulation and relaxation too. Wearing the wrong footwear (I put my hands up!) is a killer for feet. It ruins nails, encourages build-up of hard skin and can even cause painful bunions in worst cases. Margaret Dabbs, podiatrist to the rich and famous, caught on to this and developed foot treatments that mix the glamour of a shape and polish with an in-depth look and management of a visit to a chiropodist. Every customer is educated about their feet, the way how they walk affects their feet and also receives a foot scrub. My feet look so good after a MD treatment that I rarely choose to paint my nails afterwards. All the buffing makes your nails shine and your feet will feel lighter.

If you're time-poor but your feet need a fix, Sorbet, the newly opened beauty salons in north London are the perfect choice. You can add on to your pedi depending on your needs and timeframe. Elemis, Cowshed and Aveda also have pedicure stations that encourage you to sip tea, pick up a magazine or simply drift off while someone else does all the hard (and ugly) work.

Even if you're not a feet kinda person, I beg you to wear colour on your toes over the next few months. Summer feet need colour and life to compliment your sandals. They also deserve an airing now and again to keep fungus at bay. Now if that doesn't persuade you, what will? I'm just being honest!
