Ear candy

Earrings have long hovered somewhere between a teen staple and a fashion afterthought. This season, eaarrings are as big as they get. Boho glam chandeliers dazzled almost every catwalk as the latest coveted item to emerge from spring's jewellery trends. Your initial Pat Butcher territory is now officially cool and necessary to transform not only your clothes but your face too. Big earrings are fast becoming a celebrity favourite fashion and beauty emergency service. Amy Adams wore colourful danglers at the recent Oscars to jazz up her up rather plain choice of gown. While Academy Award winner and fashion starlet, Cate Blanchett opted for large chandelier-type earrings to add even more bling to her already busy ensemble.

We all know diamonds are a girl's best friend especially when they're reflecting light on tired and dull skin. Even the smallest stud can be a radiance booster. Plus they don't have to be the real deal. As long as they shine, they'll do the trick.

The right sparkle is the perfect accompaniment to showing off an up-do or swept-back hairstyle. Big earrings can be used as an extension to your haircut by adding volume, opening up the face and slimming your neck too. Usually earrings look best when they are in symmetry with hair shape and texture. Long, straight earrings teamed with long, straight hair and wavy, curved chandeliers look best with wavy hair. And so on.

Before spritzing on some dry shampoo on bad hair days, slip on a pair of long and oversized earrings instead. They will add movement, youthfulness and give fine hair a boost much more than your bottle of hair spray.

Your facial shape is important too. Unless you have the perfectly proportioned oval face, do not exaggerate your facial shape by wearing earrings of a similar shape. For example, round earrings or hoops will make a round face look rounder. Same with square, rectangular or oblong and triangular face shapes. The shape of the ear itself is important too. Try to keep your earring proportional to the size of your ear. Tiny studs don't look so good on bigger ears and big hoops overpower a smaller ear.

Surprise yourself this season by demonstrating modern style, radiant skin and groomed hair all-at-once with a simple flash of an earring. Three for the price of one!
