Three Charedi schools receive warnings from Department for Education

Schools told they could face consequences if they do not offer suitable plans for improvement

Three independent Charedi schools in London appear on the latest list of recipients of warning notices from the Department for Education.

Beis Soroh Schneirer, a girls’ primary in Hendon, Beth Jacob Grammar for girls, also in Hendon, and an infant boys’ school in Stamford Hill were told they could face closure or a restriction on admitting pupils if plans for improvement do not come up to scratch.

The schools were sent warnings last November following critical inspections and told they should submit action plans early in January.
The DfE started only last year to publish a list of warning notices — some months after they were actually sent to schools.

Beis Soroh Schneirer was asked to create an outdoor space for PE and show it had a framework in place to assess pupils’ work.

Inspectors said the secular curriculum at Talmud Torah London was too narrow and pupils did not learn enough about the diversity of other faiths and cultures in Britain.

Beth Jacob was told by the DfE it should produce an annual report on pupils’ progress to parent, while governors needed to demonstrate they had the appropriate skills.
