'How we overcame the nerves on our first day at a new senior school'

As expected, we were filled with nerves, but on the other hand excitement was kicking in as we looked forward to our first day at JFS. When we arrived, we saw a crowd of friendly and eager fellow Year Sevens greeting each other, together starting a new milestone of our lives.

After some time meeting our new classmates, we were welcomed into our classrooms by our Year 11 peer buddies. At this moment, we were feeling very overwhelmed by the colossal size of the building, but after a detailed tour and explanation of the rules, the school immediately felt more comfortable.

The majority of the day was spent getting to know our classes. But we felt that lunch and break times were brilliant opportunities to get to know and socialise with the majority of our new year group.

After feeling nervous in the morning, the welcoming environment took over and has left us excited yet anxious to see our potential in the six years to come.

We now know that even though our first impressions felt daunting, the more we learnt about the school, the less intimidating it became.
