Yavneh College in Hertfordshire is understood to be considering an opening a bulge class in September 2019.

As previously reported by the JC, both the Orthodox college and the cross-communal JCoSS in East Barnet have applied to the Department for Education for future expansion to meet anticipated demand for places.

The JC understands that Yavneh may now be willing to increase intake from 150 to 180 this year.

Sue Nyman, chair of the college's governors, said on Friday,  "The admissions process is still ongoing and Yavneh continue to monitor the situation."

JCoSS offered a bulge class last year and in 2017. Yavneh took an extra class in 2016 in an effort to ensure that Jewish children were not left without places at a state-aided Jewish school.

JFS has also been ready to accept a few more students than its official maximum in order to alleviate pressure for places.

So far there are no statistics on how many Jewish children remain without a Jewish state school in North-West London to attend.

In previous years, some children have had to wait until June, and a few later, for a place to come up.
