Relatives of Yoni Jesner, the young Glaswegian volunteer killed in a suicide bus bombing in Tel Aviv in 2002, will be running for the foundation established in his memory.

Nine-year-old Yonatan Jesner, who was named after his late uncle, and younger brothers Amitai, 7, and Ilan, 4, will be among a 50-plus contingent from the charity.

"I know I have a very important name," Yonatan said. "Although I never met my uncle, I feel as if I have because I've heard so much about him.

"He was an amazing guy for his age. He spent loads of time helping people and was brilliant at school. My dad told me that Yoni used to say that every little thing you can do to help others really matters."

The foundation uses the example of Yoni's life to motivate those of school age to get involved in volunteering.

"I really hope that loads of people will sponsor us so we can help the foundation keep on doing its work," Yonatan added.

Also taking part will be Louisa Rose, who was a friend of Yoni Jesner. At six months pregnant, she looked forward to "waddling round" the course.

For her, "the most important aspect is that it is a great reason to fundraise for a brilliant charity. Yoni was a friend of mine whose spirit still lives on in so many of us. People use the word 'inspirational' very loosely these days. But when it comes to describing Yoni, I'm confident that anyone who knew him would say it is perfect."
