Schools’ positive lesson for interfaith relations

articlemain

A Wimbledon Jewish kindergarten staged a parenting workshop with a Brixton Muslim school as part of a pilot school-linking scheme.

Over 50 parents, children and teachers from the Apples and Honey Nursery and the Iqra School took part in activities such as counting up to 10 in Arabic and Hebrew and a treasure hunt on Wimbledon common.

Parents shared concerns about bringing up children in London and imbuing them with religious values.
The event was held under the aegis of Shared Futures, working for better interfaith relationships. Project manager Susan Moss said: "The communication between the parents was great."

Iqra head Firdos Qazi added: "To see the children from the two schools holding hands, running, jumping and learning together was a joy to behold. The world would be a different place if we could focus on commonality, of which we found so much, and less on difference."
