A best-ever 4,000 runners and spectators supporting a record 62 charities are expected at this year's Maccabi GB Community Fun Run on June 19.

As in recent years, the fun run will be at Allianz Park in north London, home to Saracens rugby team.

Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis will be the race starter for the 5k event, one of three options, along with the 10k and 1k. The more ambitious can tackle the "tri-run" of 16k, which combines the three distances.

New entrants include seven Jewish primary schools.

Since the fun run's establishment 10 years ago, more than £1.25 million has been raised for Jewish causes. It has inspired similar Maccabi-administered events around the globe.

Maccabi GB's Neil Taylor said the day was important for a number of reasons. "It gives a platform for many Jewish charities and schools to reach a wider audience and raise funds."

"It also gives Anglo-Jewry the opportunity to get active, whether by walking, jogging, or by running longer distances.

"Finally, it brings together Jews of all ages, observance and backgrounds in one place. It really is an amazing day."
