Langdon footballers will soon be taking on the likes of Manchester City - or at least the Premier League champions' learning disability team.

The charity, helping young adults with learning difficulties to live independently, has set up a seven-a-side team with the support of Maccabi GB. The hope is that the team will play in the Greater Manchester Ability Counts League next season.

In a friendly on Monday, Langdon suffered a heavy defeat to a side attached to Championship club Wigan. But team organiser James Leinhardt said the players loved the experience.

"We got a drubbing, but the lads scored a couple of goals and when they did they were buzzing. Their technical abilities are improving week on week and it's also a great chance for them to engage with others in a similar situation. Football is a universal language."

The team is being trained by the World At Your Feet academy, which also coaches Maccabi teams. Its kit and travel costs are being met by communal and other donations.

Langdon will be away to the Manchester City side next week.
