Legacy of 7/7 victim

articlemain

An eye-care centre in India was opened this week in memory of 7/7 bombings victim Miriam Hyman.

Based at the L V Prasad Eye Institute in Bhubaneswar, the Miriam Hyman Children’s Eye Care Centre will serve underprivileged youngsters. The £100,000-plus facility has been funded by the Miriam Hyman Memorial Trust, set up by the family of the North Londoner, who died in the 2005 blast at Tavistock Square, aged 32.

Her mother Mavis said on Wednesday: “Miriam would have had a smile on her face for every child who benefits from the centre. It is the most comforting thing that has happened in the last three years. It is a living memorial for Miriam. We feel that the money is being used by people who are responsible and caring.”

Ms Hyman’s sister Esther represented the family at the centre’s opening on Thursday. She said: “We have made something positive come out of the events of 7/7. It is a fitting legacy for my sister, a woman who was so positive herself.”

The trust will continue to raise money for the centre.
