JFS pupils win science contest

articlemain

JFS year 13 students Gil Reich, Yuval Cohen and Joe Middleburgh have struck gold in a science prize with an Olympic theme.

The trio won the secondary schools category in a Royal Society of Chemistry contest supported by the author, Bill Bryson. Mr Bryson presented the young scientists with their awards at a House of Commons ceremony.

For the “Science and Sport” challenge, the JFS pupils produced a short film on how food generates energy in the body and the role of proteins in muscle growth and repair.

Gil Reich said: “We loved the London 2012 Olympics and really wanted to communicate how science played a vital part in the success of athletes.”
