JFS launch for Young Musician of the Year 2014

articlemain

Promising musicians can tune into a new category in this year’s Emunah Young Musician of the year — as well as performers, the search is also on for a talented music theatre singer.

The competition, which is held in conjunction with the Jewish Chronicle, was launched at a JFS winter concert held last week where staff and pupils of the Kenton school gave a warm welcome to Emunah director Deborah Nathan. “I look forward to receiving lots of applications from talented musicians and singers,” Ms Nathan told the audience.

The charity, which supports vulnerable children in Israel, is looking for an outstanding young musician to follow in the footsteps of the 2013 winner, violinist Amos Sharp. Entry is open to solo musicians and singers aged eight to 18. The categories are: brass, woodwind, strings, piano, percussion, classical voice and music theatre voice. Heats will take place in London on February 2 and in Manchester on February 9.

The competition climaxes at a showcase concert on March 9 at the Royal Academy of Music. The panel of judges includes Malcolm Singer, director of music at the Yehudi Menuhin School of Music and JC editor, Stephen Pollard.

There’s a cash prize of £200 for the winner of the new category while the main winner will get £300.
