Glasgow deli back in business after fire

articlemain

Mark’s Deli in Giffnock has reopened in new premises following a fire which caused extensive damage to the kosher store last month.

“Fortunately, there was a shop available and we’ve managed to get it kitted out quickly,” explained owner Mark Cohen.

“My suppliers have been brilliant. They’ve managed to get me everything I needed to reopen. The girls who work for me have also been excellent.”

Since the fire, “we’ve been working out of a garage and we’ve managed to do deliveries. But people want to go to a shop. A lot of people said they were just about to run out of stuff so it’s great timing.”

Mr Cohen was grateful for the many messages from well-wishers posted on the deli’s Facebook page. “People have just been so kind, so supportive. In adversity, you see the nice things in people.” And it was nice to be making food once again. “I love eating as much as I love owning the shop.”

The temporary premises are in Fenwick Road, a short distance from the original site in Burnfield Road, to which Mr Cohen hopes to return in around six months.
