A year-long programme for some of the brightest leadership talents is being hailed as “the most important development in communal leadership for 20 years”.

Being run through Lead, a division of the JLC, Gamechangers will train 24 people in their 30s and 40s with senior leadership potential.

Nominations can be made through communal organisations but the organisers are also looking to attract future stars with no previous communal involvement.

It is being chaired by Miles Webber, a General Electric executive and former chair of the UJIA allocations committee, who explained: “We’re casting the net as wide as we can and we are encouraging organisations [to nominate].” It was important to get them on board as they would benefit from the leadership expertise accumulated by the graduates.

Participants will initially focus on communal affairs and strategy. “They are going to look at some of the big dynamics.” They will then be asked to come up with a solution to a challenging issue.

“At the end of the programme they will spend a long weekend in Israel where they will build their recommendations into a presentation for the JLC,” Mr Webber added. “At least one of those recommendations will be executed.”

Lead chair Nigel Layton added: “The communal leaders of tomorrow now have a programme to ensure they are fully equipped to lead our community in the years to come.”
